When we consider this verse in James, it is easy to understand just how fleeting life really is and therefore how we are to seize the time we have as mortals. Yet we also know that our days in this world appear to be established, as the Psalmist says in Psalm 39 says "LORD, make me to know my end And what is the extent of my days; Let me know how transient I am. "Behold, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my lifetime as nothing in Your sight; Surely every man at his best is a mere breath. Selah.…
Life therefore we can say is established by the creator, who knows the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end. As I pondered these ideas recently, the Lord Jesus showed me an example of this in life. My wide is currently overseas, but before she left, she placed a cut rose from our garden in a vase on the living room table. After a week or so this rose began to wilt and the petals began to fall off on to the table. As I grabbed the rose to throw it out, the Lord said this is like man's life. Though the rose had been cut off from the plant or it's source of nutrition, it still was able to live a set number of days.
Humans are a lot like this, though we can be cut off from a true source of strength and hope, which comes through knowing Christ, we can still live out our lives on this earth. Though we might be dis-membered from the body or cut off from the church which is the body of Christ, we still have a time on this earth, established by our eternal Father that we can live.
This can be seen in the lives of obviously evil men, such as Hitler and the like who they chose to deny Christ and all that He achieved for us on the Cross, they continue to live out life oblivious to eternity. Yet this was never God's intention, for as we have been created in His image with the expectation of his touch and imprint on our lives each day, He desires, as He did before the fall, to walk with us each day in the garden of our lives and hearts, speaking and leading us into righteous and eternal hope.
Seek first the Kingdom of God and all it's righteousness and you shall have all these things also. Matthew 6:33
God Bless
